Cornwall is a fantastic place to visit and as a family we travel down at least twice a year. With fabulous beaches and a really excellent array of family activities and attractions Cornwall really is the perfect place to enjoy a family break. After all the hard work that Christmas often demands with entertaining family and friends why not escape to the peace and tranquillity that Cornwall offers for New Year.

The Cornish coastal scenery with its rugged cliffs with waves breaking against them is simply breath-taking. Almost completely surrounded by sea this magnificent coastline wraps around Cornwall for almost three hundred miles. The surf provides a great playground for a variety of water sports, both of my boys are keen surfers and catching some waves on New Year’s Day is up on their top 5 favourite ways to begin a New Year!

The Cornish coastal path runs all the way round the coast from Bude in the north to Plymouth in the south, whether you choose a gentle stroll or a challenging hike you can really appreciate the unspoilt scenery. Seals can be seen around the coast of Cornwall all year round. Watching them splashing around in the sea is truly captivating.

We always pass through Bodmin Moor and I am struck by how its skies always appear brooding and the wilderness seems to run on and on. I’m yet to walk on Bodmin Moor but there are many trails and fascinating prehistoric remains.

The freedom offered with your own accommodation is having the luxury to enjoy an intimate family and friends celebration in your own particular style but if you are looking to go out there are many fabulous restaurants with local food producers and outstanding chef. Choosing to celebrate in culinary style is not a problem.

Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant at Watergate Bay is hosting a New Year’s Eve party, dress up as a superhero enjoy cocktails a four course meal and dance into the wee hours!

Paul Ainsworth at No 6 Padstow – Just awarded their first Michelin star. Perfect for a special occasion and New Year certainly qualifies! With a creative 7 course tasting menu and fantastic wine list this restaurant really is very special.

Asquiths Lostwithiel. Modern imaginative British food created by chef proprietor Graham Cuthbertson served in comfortable and elegant surroundings.

For a more lively evening take a look at:

New Year’s Eve in St Ives

Fancy dress, street parties and fireworks are all part of this famous celebration.

New Year’s Eve in Newquay

Newquay also has a fancy dress carnival, great fun for all ages.

Have a fantastic New Year!
