Only (the) 11% of Brits will head off on holiday this Christmas period. The latest survey conducted by HomeAway.co.uk points out that the vast majority of British holidaymakers (72%) will spend their Christmas holidays at home with their partners or families. The report (PDF) was based on 1,840 responses collected via surveys from HomeAway.co.uk visitors and owners in November 2011.
The survey also shows that most people who are going away will opt for a holiday rental (46%) during their holidays versus 31% that preferred a hotel. The reasons given to choose a rental accommodation are the access to facilities such as kitchens and living rooms (67%), as well as better environment to relax with each other (45%).
The ideal property for a Christmas holiday is a cosy cottage or farmhouse with roaring log fire (38%) and a luxurious villa with pool (32%). The most popular type of destination are winter sun holidays (37%), rural retreats (16%) and city breaks (14%).
