British holidaymakers still prefer the sunny Spain for their summer holidays. The latest figures from HomeAway.co.uk reveals that a larger number of Brits than ever before chose Spain as their top summer destination during the third quarter of 2011. The report (PDF) was based on 1,840 responses collected via surveys from HomeAway.co.uk visitors and owners in November 2011.
The research points out that between July and September 2011 visitors to Spain spent €19.7 billion, increasing their spending power by 8% on 2010 figures. The top three most favourite destinations in Spain in terms of the number of booking enquiries were Malaga Province, Majorca and Ibiza.
The report also shows a clear preference towards short-haul destinations, with 9 out of the top 10 holiday destinations taking place either in the UK or within a three hour flight distance. According to other research conducted by HomeAway.co.uk last November, 46% of holidaymakers spent two weeks on their summer break.
